ABOUT NIGHT OF 1000 DRAWINGS?
In 2006, when the Paballo Ya Batho delivery vehicle was stolen, Felix Falkenberger and David Quan Chong, who served as volunteers at the time, came up with the concept of Night of a 1000 Drawings to raise funds to replace the vehicle. While in the planning phases, a bakkie was donated but everybody agreed to continue with 1000 Drawings as the project started gaining momentum. Friend and event organiser Kelly McGillkivray was roped in to pull together this unique inner-city art exhibition.
In South Africa many underprivledged youth battle with access to a good quality education due to circumstances beyond their control and art can be the change for many…
All the public art is collected after months of drawing, sketching, painting, photographing and scribbling and are then hung in a massive inner-city art exhibition. Everyone is then encouraged to come to the exhibition and buy art for R150 knowing they will be making a difference. You can get your hands on a one-of-a-kind, original piece for you to enjoy!
In 2019, the doodles of many have helped raise R150 0000 for our chosen non-profit organisation partners who are supporting the youth of South Africa in a practicle and tangible way.
